Overview:
In an attempt to give American armor a fighting chance against heavy German tanks, the army Ordnance Department developed the T26 Medium tank, better known as the Pershing. Carrying a 90mm gun and heavy frontal armor, the Pershing was rushed into combat service. The first combat between Tiger and Pershing occurred as Americans approached Elsdorf.Attacker: American (CCB, 3rd Armored Division with 13th Infantry Regiment)

I got a powerful US force tasked with taking 6 stone buildings (out of 7) from an 8-ML, ELR 2 German force built around a Tiger I. With 9 turns, time wasn't a problem, but Jim's aggressive defense was. I planned to get the tanks and a platoon around Jim's left flank and push for the back (north) buildings while my other two platoons "fixed" Jim's defenders in the south buildings. It worked with a turn to spare. Two 90L hits (1KIA and 2MC) on 8F1L1 that killed Jim's 10-2 and 548 w/MMG sealed the deal. Jim: Great game, fairly close and full of "cinematic" ASL action! A 2-turn Melee in 8L3 cost me two 548s and my 8-0. The Tiger drove a US platoon out of the 8J10 woods, surviving four side PF shots! Forced to choose between a front 90L shot and another side BAZ shot, I took the BAZ. It finally got the Tiger after sN8 and a motion attempt failed. The keys to a German win are 1) stay concealed/out of LOS as much as possible to neutralize the US OBA especially WP, and 2) break/kill US MMC needed to control six buildings (all but 8B2). Avoid fixating on the tank battle (which is hard because it's so much fun). Games like this one define ASL; it's fun win or lose. | ||
