Overview:
Generalissimo Franco was determined to take Madrid before Christmas and end the war. The Nationalist advance toward the capital began on the first week of October with a three-pronged attack intended to envelop the city and force a Republican surrender. A sense of panic took hold as the Republicans frantically sought to stymie the attack's momentum. Poor coordination, mounting casualties and unexpectedly fierce resistance checked the assault on two fronts. One column commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Carlos Asensio, however, discovered a gap in the Republican line which enabled the Nationalists to cross the Manzanares River and establish a bridgehead deep in University City. From there, only some 500 meters separated Asensio's men from the nearest café in Madrid.Attacker: Nationalists (XI International Brigade and Central Army, Districto de Madrid with Columna Durruti)
Defender: Republicans (Army of Africa, Regulares and 4th Bandera Legionnaires)

2022-11-20 | (A) Jobbo Fett | vs | RootinPutin | Nationalists win | A tense scenario that pivoted being a Personal Morale Check for the Nationalists at the half-way mark into clawing themselves to victory with a disgusting number of 4's rolled on the IIFT which constantly found ways to break the attacking 5-2-7s. Rootin' did a fantastic job defending early on, blowing up my more powerful Panzers and stalling the advance to the point where I had barely gotten the victory building as reinforcements poured into the area. The FT-17s felt particularly useless with their extremely limited movement and the snipers favored the defending side. Not a lightning fast scenario, but one that should see tournament play. |
