Overview:

Beginning in March 1944, large-scale anti-Partisan operations began in the northwestern Alps between Turin and Cuneo. German forces executed successful operations in the Lanzo and Pellice valleys. Large numbers of Partisans were killed and even fewer were captured. The primary objective of these operations was the simple elimination of active Partisan groups. The month of April opened with “Operation Wien”. This operation would clear the Maira and Varaita valleys. These successful operations would lead to another launched at the end of April…”Operation Tuebingen”.
