Overview:
A report gave information that the Russian Tank Army drove south. Immediately the order was given to the 2nd Finnish Battalion to attack in the direction of Tali Mill. Supported by a few remaining men of the Swedish Avdelta Kompaniet, led by Lieutenants Axel Hård av Segerstad and Orvar Nilsson, and five StuG's, the forces set out at precisely 2400 hours, midnight. The dim weather conditions of the Nordic twilight helped, turning night into day. Assault Guns were to lead with guarding patrols accompanying each. The Swedish forces provided close support for the first two Assault guns. The heavier weapons would follow behind and the mortars stood ready to give fire support. At first all was still on the Russian side, then about 75 meters from the edge of the woods, all hell broke loose.Attacker: Russian (30th Guards Tank Brigade)
Defender: Finnish / Swedish (II. Bataljonen, Infanteriregimente 13 and I. Stormkanonskompaniet)

2021-12-31 | (D) Stephen dedier | vs | Jim Holt | Russian win | This one finishes up the Swede pack for Jim and I. There are just too many Russians to overcome in this one. My Stug's did all they could, killing 5 T34's and immobilizing one and that took a lot of good rolls and survival given the initial setup. I used a strategy of covering the retreat of 1 Stug with smoke from the ones out of LoS on turn 1. (tried for 2 but no smoke) The immobilized one got my last Stug and my AT gun crew (they did take out the artillery observer) I had infantry dispersed against a multi-directional Russian infantry assault (including 2 tank crews and the 2 crews from the 45LLs (8 points right there). I needed success from the LATW to turn it into an infantry battle but that didn't happen. Shrek x10 on the first shot 9x Faust tries, 1 kill, 3 pins and 5 none available sealed my fate letting the 3 remaining T34 (one malfed) run off a weak point in my defenses. AT mines played no part. There are too many exits and every one has multiple bypass options other than the road. The 3 T34 were enough for the victory. Fun but i think the Finn/Swedes need some magnificent luck to win this one. | ||
