Overview:
The Imperial Japanese Navy was but a memory and the Leyte landings had gone on schedule. However, by early December, the U.S. X and XXIV Corps were in need of a supply center that could handle the volume for bases planned on Leyte. The largest commercial center in western Leyte that possessed a concrete and pile pier large enough for ocean transports was the town of Ormoc. The 77th Infantry Division would assault from both sides to isolate the Japanese defenders from the rest of the 33rd Army.Attacker: American (306th and 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division and elements of the 776th Amphibian Tank Battalion)
Defender: Japanese (Remnants of the 12th Independent Infantry Regiment)

2015-02-05 | (D) X von Marwitz | vs | Michael Koch | Draw | The scenario situation in this one is somewhat unusual: Basically a (partly PTO) city fight with some amphibian US tanks that have the option to go seaborne. The attacking US need to evict the Japanese from two victory buildings without suffering 40 CVP. The Americans are aided by a more or less scripted 100mm Rocket OBA Fire Mission and a module of 80mm Btln. MTR (WP/HE). What is remarkable is that the Japanese have SAN: 7 and Booby Trap Level A, which gives the scenario a special flavor. It is my impression that causing 40 CVP to the US is completely impossible. So it is basically about the buildings. The Japanese won't be able to stand up vs. US firepower, so it is about delaying the US as much as possible. Because it got late, we did not play the scenario to conclusion. It was still undecided during Turn 5, but the US thought it to be tending towards the Japanese side at that time. From my viewpoint, I agreed, though Japanese forces were in the "phase" when falling back becomes increasingly difficult, thus the defence briefly crytallizes before going down. The timetable for the US became tighter but it could have gone both ways, so we called it a draw. The scenario itself is interesting to play, though I would not recommend this scenario for a tournament. Having 2x OBA in it and SAN 7, it might be a little fickle, though for me, the high SAN gave it a special flavor. Up to now, ROAR has it 9-1 in favor of the Japanese. | ||
