Overview:
General Heinz Guderian's Panzer-Korps XIX had broken through the Polish defensive lines at Wizna and Mlawa. Next on the agenda was the fortress of Brzesc-Litewski. If the fortress could be captured, a Polish retreat to the River Bug would be rendered impossible, Polish troops in Warsaw would be threatened with encirclement =, and the whole country would be split in two. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the fortress, located far away from the border, had been used as a depot and mobilization center, and had recently functioned as an Army headquarters. The Fortress' current garrison were march battalions from the 35th and 82nd Infantry Regiments. There were also a number of old FT-17 tanks, deemed obsolete and used for training purposes. When Polish General Konstanty Plisowski learned of the Greman threat to Brzesc-Litewski, he organized the available troops into three infantry battalions and an engineer battalion. The old FT-17s were pressed into service and organized into three companies, each with abouth a dozen tanks. On 14 September, Panzer-Division 10 hit Brzesc-Litewski blitzkrieg-style directly from the march.Attacker: German (Abteilung II, Panzer-Regiment 7, Panzer-Division 10)
Defender: Polish (82nd Infantry Regiment and 113th Light Tank Company)
