Overview:
The five-story tall Manila Hotel stood watch over Dewey Boulevard, the South Port area, and the open park areas surrounding lntramuros. To gain entrance, the troopers of 12th Cavalry Regiment would have to dash across the open areas of Wallace Field, the Old Luneta, and Burnham Green, all the while under fire from the Japanese within the Manila Hotel. To soften the Japanese positions, the Americans began shelling the hotel during the night of 20 February and continued the bombardment the next morning. When the last shell had exploded, the cavalrymen, with tanks in support, moved forward.Attacker: American (1st Squadron, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division and 44th Tank Battalion)
Defender: Japanese (Central Force Headquarters Battalion and 5th Naval Battalion)

2024-10-23 | (A) John Garlic | vs | Alex Koestler | American win | Excellent scenario. My initial attack stalled as OBA failed to connect. Swung to right around backside of hotel while frontal forces continued to attrite Japanese and try to fix them in MacArthur accompanied the swing wide. Survived multiple attacks and lost forces. Three HIP THH tried to get to my vehicles, but was able to cut them down. In the end, Japanese lauched a massive counterattack out of the building, intent was to trap MacArthur and force me to bust CVP cap. I went to 26 CVP when smoke cleared, but not enough GO Japanese in hotel left to deny win. |
