2021-10-27 | (A) Stephen dedier | vs | Jim Holt | Swedish win | Continuing our playing through the pack. I decided to place the bridges allowing me to run a left flank with 3 units + leader and a right flank with 3 units + leader while the last unit covered the flanking units on the right and looked for mines The left flank took a long range shot from the MMG but managed to reach the well positioned victory hex in turn 3 since the Russians are very limited with movement. My right flank hit some well placed mines and then Jim's reinforcements where we reached a bloody conflict. His INF popped up right in the middle of the victory area taking down a unit i sent on a run around back to the middle. I was forced to initiate CC on my left in order to try and force to the middle victory zone and the Swedes were tough taking out 1.5 Russian squads leaving me positioned to bum rush to the middle victory hex (I deployed leaving 2.5 units for that with .5 and leader guarding my captured V hex). My units on the right took it on the chin from the INF but kept taking out Russians in CC keeping Jim from making big rush back to the middle. In the end it came down to my rush against Jims MMG and 0.5 squads in the V hex. I lost 1 units but got 1.5 to advance into the V hex where i rolled snakes in CC. This left Jim to charge with his MMG squad which made it all the way into CC with the Swedes but were eliminated in CC. Another interesting scenario from the pack. Always fun when they come down to the last die roll for a victory decision and that has happened on more than half of these for us. |
