Overview:
Fontenay was held by Battalion III, SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 26, which was reinforced with pioneers, guns, and PzIVs of Company 8, Battalion I, SS Panzer Regiment 12, the Reconnaissance Battalion, and elements of Battalion III, SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 26. The British 49th Division’s objective was to seize Fontenay. They benefitted from a tremendous amount of artillery support, but lacked air support due to a morning mist. The initial attack was made by the 11th Royal Scottish Fusiliers. The fighting started on the crest north of the village, where a Panzer IV was eliminated. The bloody fighting then entered the village streets. With the British attack all along the sector, Kampfgruppe Munche was committed to the action. The 11th Scots could not take the village, and the 7th Duke of Wellington Regiment, supported by tanks and tanks destroyers, threw themselves into the fray.Attacker: British (Reinforced 147th Brigade, 49th Division)
Defender: German / German (SS) (Battalion III, Panzergrenadier Regiment 26 and Company 8/Battalion II, SS Panzer Regiment 12, SS Panzer Division 12 and Kampfgruppe Munche, SS Panzer Division 12)

2025-02-28 | (A) Peter Palmer | vs | John Knowles | British win | 8 hrs | This is an involved, large scenario. Longs of ASL problem solving and manoeuvring on the art of the British to mount credible threats before the Panthers arrive. John and continued our chronological playthrough of BtB with the scenario and the second session was just vicious with my average DR being 5.62 and john having 7 consecutiveunsccesful Sniper activions. As three of those were on TH shots against his Panzers, there wasn't much opposition to the Shermans. John's Pak 40 had malfed and then Xed on the repair already (on his opening shot) and all his 75L tubes were eliminated or malfed by the time we called it a day. It's s scanrio I wouldn't mind playing again because our playing was very much dice driven in the end.
2020-11-10 | (A) Andy Bagley | vs | Neil Brunger | German / German (SS) win | This is a big scenario, we played over two full-day sessions on VASL. No problems with it being big, but I found it a real slog for the Brits. This may be because I got off to a really bad start: the bombardment missed completely, OBA was ineffective (partly my fault), both 51mm mortars failed to get any smoke, and my squad failed to pass any MCs early on. And of course Neil correctly chose to rubble some front-line buildings, making them invalid for VC purposes - and then immobilised my AVRE Churchill with a lucky shot from a HIP AT Gun.. Things improved slightly later and my strategy of encircling the village made some progress, but it was too little too late; I resigned on turn 7 having got just four buildings with no prospect of getting any more. I think the scenario is probably balanced, but it needs a lot of brainpower and accurate play by the Brits to be successful.
2020-07-01 | (D) Michael Rodgers | vs | Jeff Sewell | British win | The British have lots of tanks, lots of troops and lots of smoke assets.
