Overview:
General Vatutin brought up the Third Guards Tank Army to break out of the Dnepr River bridgeheads and take Kiev. Vatutin planned on sweeping south in order to unhinge the Dnepr line. Sensing the danger, Manstein ordered the newly arrived 25th Panzer Division to hold the rail hub town of Fastov.
