Overview:
The 2nd Panzer Division had made the most progress during the Ardennes offensive, and was positioned a mere 6 kilometers from the Meuse River. General Harmon, the 2nd Armored Division commander, contacted headquarters for permission to attack and, after a convoluted series of messages, received permission for a limited counterattack. Harmon responded, "The bastards are in the bag."Attacker: American (Task Force A & B, 2nd Armored Division)

2022-12-23 | (A) Scott Sherer | vs | Jeff B | German win | Total disaster for the Americans. Badly coordinated attack left burning American wrecks all over the battlefield without a single Panther lost by the Germans. To make matters worse, the American FB's knocked out more of their own tanks (1) than of the enemy (0). I conceded before the Germans even brought their reinforcements on board and they probably would have won even without them. But still a wild (and VERY large) scenario.
2022-12-23 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Scott Sherer | German win | 19.5 hrs | I tucked all my tanks away in either woods or buildings to make sighting them difficult for the FBs and, as Scott said, this proved successful when I even managed to bomb a Sherman with a mistaken attack. Meanwhile that didn't stop them from shooting marauding American vehicles as, between some hot shooting from them and my AT gun, three HTs and a Sherman were knocked out the first half of the turn. 3/4 of these were burning, and all of them were at key bottleneck points. This was only the start of what ended up being a total of sixteen burning wrecks for the game. The Germans did develop some mechanical problems early however, with the immobilized Panther breaking its CMG, and the Panther guarding the western road breaking its MA. For his part, Scott KIAd a full German squad manning a PSK and LMG with some lucky bounding fire, as well as sending the Whirlwind home early with a "1" sniper hit. This would be a barn burner from the get-go! Turn 2 saw only a sole HT knocked out, with the western Panther fixing its MA, only to be shocked. The Panther recovered next turn, only to break its BMG, while the Americans lost four more tanks and saw a HT immobilized. The bottom of the turn saw more American armor devestation, with three more lost tanks (including the 105 and a 90L), while a Stuart was immobilized by the freshly-dropped German OBA. Not all was bad for the Americans though, as they broke the AT gun crew and busted up all Germans along the eastern ridge. While the western Panther again broke its MA, never to be repaired (despite many attempts). Turn 3 saw the Americans take control of the western edge of the valley, but their push up the middle here was severely rebuffed, not least by an industrious German HS situated in M6 who held out until the end of the game (including surviving friendly OBA fire). Meanwhile the Americans worked to exploit the opening in the east, but they would face slow going through the nasty terrain there. But the American armor body count continued to pile up, with two more HTs lost and two more tanks (including the M4A3E2). And it grew further on the bottom half of the turn by another HT and three tanks (including the last 90L). The German mechanical problems grew, with two AFVs bogging while turning in the woods. The top of Turn 4 was relatively quiet, with only a couple more HTs knocked out, but once again the German half of the turn saw increased carnage, with another two HTs and a Sherman lost. The Americans finally bagged their first AFV kill (the Cricket), when a Sherman survived a point blank Panther shot whiffing while shooting its butt. This Panther was subsequently immobilized, stunned, and then shocked by an in-motion Sherman with gyros. The next turn saw the re-manned AT gun knocked out with a CH, and the Americans exit 17VP of vehicles, but having lost an average of 6.25 vehicles each turn (not counting any immobilized), and facing substantial German reinforcements, the Americans called it a day. A wild, fun, and timely Battle of the Bulge scenario.
