Overview:
On June 19, after arriving near Brest, the German troops headed towards southern Finistère and Lorient. Admiral de Penfentenyo decided to organize resistance at the crossroads known as Cinq-Chemins, 10 kilometers from Lorient, on the road to Quimper. On the evening of June 20, a detachment was set up, composed of a reserve unit section and a 13.2 mm quadruple machine gun from the Navy, under the command of Commandant Billaud. On the morning of the 21st, leaving Pont-Aven, the German vanguards arrived at the crossroads of Cinq-Chemins.
