Overview:
General Courtney Hodges commanding U.S. First Army declared "Peiper must be stopped!" This order would soon be carried out in the bloody snow-covered hills of the small Belgian town of Stoumont. After first stalling the German kampfgruppe there, the Americans began to push back the exposed Germans. The experienced 30th Infantry Division "Old Hickory" led the way in dislodging the SS troopers dug in at the far point of Peiper's penetration-Sainte Edouard's Sanatorium - but not without help. Having just equipped themselves with tanks they had refitted at the Sprimont repair depot-including an M4(105) and an M36 Tank Destroyer-the 740th Tank Battalion commanded by Lt. Colonel George K. Rubel rushed into Stoumont to fend off Peiper's Panthers.Attacker: American (Task Force Harrison, 1st and 3rd Battalions, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division with 740th Tank Destroyer Battalion)
