Overview:
The plan for the Soviet attack of 20 December, 1944 to encircle Budapest had been reworked by Malinoysky. In the north, the 2nd Ukrainian Front were to breach the Ipoly river line and advance to ???, then turn to the south toward the Danube, while the 3rd Ukrainian Front was to breach the Margit Line going north and northwest.
