Overview:
As dawn broke over Mednoye, the weather shifted from morning fog and intermittent snow flurries to afternoon rain showers. This natural cover provided the perfect concealment for the Soviet 1319th Rifle Regiment of the 185th Rifle Division, bolstered by tank support from the 8th Tank Brigade. Emerging from the woods north of town, the Soviet forces utilized the dense fog, which limited visibility to just 400 meters, to launch a surprise attack across the Tvertsa River against the German defenders.
