Overview:

The heights of the Burgberg ("Castle Hill") loomed over the battle for the Hurtgen Forest, already one of the bloodiest engagements the Americans had experienced since landing in Normandy. German possession of the hill threatened the right flank of the U.S. 8th Infantry Division, advancing toward the Roer River. Called "Hill 400" by the Americans, the Burgberg dominated the town of Bergstein, where U.S. infantry and armor were concentrating in preparation for their next bound forward. Securing the Burgberg was essential for flank security. The Germans had constructed extensive bunker systems on the hill as part of the formidable West Wall. German grenadier regiment staff, including elements of Infanterie-Division 89 and Volksgrenadier-Division 272, were temporarily stationed there. On 6 December, elements of the 2nd Ranger Battalion were assigned to take the hill.

2025-11-26(D) Andy Bagley vs Neil Brunger American winComing from the World Championship, I thought this might be a good scenario, but I was disappointed. I agree with Mike McGrath's view in Journal 16 that it is pro-American. The firepower and smoke capability of the Americans is just too great for poor-quality German troops.
I ignored the eastern level 4 hilltop and chose to set up my other pillboxes next to the 3+5+7 one, with PFZs in front, and wire to the south. The Americans attacked on a broad front, moving slowly but steadily forward, and I was simply unable to stop them anywhere (some poor DRs didn't help). I conceded at the start of Turn 6, with the Americans about to achieve all three of their VCs (where they only needed two of them).
