Overview:

Responding to the furious German attack on the Ponyri train station that again captured the water tower, Lt. General Nikolai Pukhov launched a counterattack to take back the station and area immediately around it. Reinforcing the diminishing but steadfast 307th Division with KV s from the 27th Guards Tank Regiment added enough punch to push the Germans back from the train station and water tower and into the maintenance area to the north. 8 July would be another tough day for soldiers of both sides.

As the Russians I lost both KVs early to aggressive StuG tactics and just too many KIA, K/, ELR failure on the Russian infantry with the German force largely untouched. Just one of those games…
2026-07-10	(D) Simon Staniforth	vs	Ian Ainsworth	Draw	We initially miscalculated the available VP, not allowing for the upper levels in the Station building only realising this towards the end game. The Russian assault from the South eventually saw them contest the water tower but they were unable to take it in the final turn CC. The Germans were able to hold most of the station despite a determined last turn Russian assault and with also having taken out both KVs (without losing a StuG) they had enough VP for the win. An enjoyable introduction to SaP coming down the the final half turn, we intend to play again with the sides reversed
