Overview:

During the Eight Army's advance north from Pyongyang, 27 Commonwealth Brigade comprised the main element on its western flank. Attached to 27 Brigade were U.S. artillery, engineers, and armor (89th Medium Tank Battalion). Following on the tails of the rapidly retreating KPA units, 27 Brigade intermittently caught up with scattered North Korean elements, but was not seriously impeded until it reached Pakchon, where the bridge over the Taenyong River was found to be destroyed. A two-day delay ensued before 27 Brigade was able to affect the crossing. The short delay allowed KPA units to reform into a semblance of organization. On 29 October, 27 Brigade resumed its movement toward Chongiu.
