Overview:

The Soviet 6th Guard Tank Army was attacking to the south along the Garam River, threatening the rear of the LVII Panzerkorps. This forced the Germans in Gyerk to retreat to the area of Ipolyvisk. Seeing the danger presented by this Soviet advance, Hauptman Glaubitz formed a kmapfgruppe that included armored cars and halftracks from Panzer-Aufklarungs Abteilung 3 along with a Wirblewind from FlaK Abteilung 314. Kampfgruppe Glaubitz counterattacked the Soviets that were now attempting to penetrate the Ipolyvisk Bridgehead. Across rolling farmland, Glaubitz led the reconnaissance troops until they made contact with a battery of SU-85 tank destroyers.

2024-12-16(A) Dave Mareske vs Paul Works Russian winA very close engagement that came down to the last set of Advance Fire and Close Combat. The Germans were able to control all three buildings but one remaining SU-85 remained next to 71W7. One German squad made it there and went into CC, needed a 5 to win the game, but rolled too high. There were lots of burning wrecks and the SU-85s eliminated all the German vehicles except for the FlakPz, which was kept out of harms way most of the time.
