Overview:

General Leclerc's 2nd Armoured Division (DB) was at the gates of Paris, but to the south it faced German troops determined to prevent its passage. Guns were positioned and bunkers were built. To the north of Fresnes was a large prison built in 1895. It was being used by the Nazis to hold not only Allied soldiers and French resistance fighters, but also German soldiers convicted of various crimes. It was defended by anti-aircraft guns positioned nearby. Commander Putz gave orders to reduce the obstacle that impeded the progress of his troops. He was assisted by a local glutton, a resident of Fresnes, who knew the position of the guns. Among the French troops, there are also some fighting Spanish Republicans, such as Sergeant Jose Molina from Barcelona, group leader of the 3/11/3 RMT, and Second Lieutenant Vicente Montoya from Seville, of the 1/9/3 RMT.
