Overview:
In early February 1943, the Russians were working hard to liberate the Kuban region. A major operation to capture Novorossiysk had been launched. Landings at Ozereyka Bay had gone badly, but a smaller landing at Stanichka by Major Caesar Kunikov’s 305th Naval Infantry Battalion had succeeded. Kunikov’s force had established a small bridgehead. Originally, Kunikov’s small 800 man force had been designed to draw Germans away from the main effort at Ozereyka, but building on his success, Kunikov dug in around a brick schoolhouse and awaited reinforcements.Attacker: German (73. This gave the Russians a reprieve and Kunikov was able to break up the Germans and the sniper would KIA the German 8-0 and 8-1. The 9-1 was wounded and as a result the broken Germans were not able to rally. The Germans would secure Hex F6 ground level, but Kunikov held all the other victory locations for the win. |
