Overview:
As the frantic efforts to escape encirclement reached a crescendo, the British forces north and south of the strategic town of Shewedaung prepared to rush the defenders. Several units were tasked with flank protection for the vulnerable soft transports, HQ units, ad supporting artillery. The Japanese rushed reinforcements up the river road parallel and to the west of the British southern column. As these forces maneuvered, patrols were ordered to harass and eliminate targets of opportunity. Colonel Harada, commanding the 215th Infantry Regiment, ordered two platoons of Company 10 to attack towards the sound of the guns heard during the night. A morning mist gave cover to this movement. Unfortunately for Harada, the British had moved a company to stand as flank guard over those guns.Attacker: British (2nd Company, 2nd Battalion, Duke of Wellington's Regiment)
Defender: Japanese (Company 10, 2nd Battalion, 215th Infantry Regiment, 33rd Infantry Division)

2024-11-13 | (A) Richard Webb | vs | Craig Benn | Japanese win | V tight little scenario. Bamboo is horrible. Lots for British to do in terms of keeping road clear of Japanese, being mindful of the Japanese Exit VC, lots of options for Japanese on how/ where to defend. came up short against Craig's skilful defence. I Need to remember road bonus when roads do exist in PTO

2024-09-30 | (D) Simon Staniforth | vs | Andy Bagley | Japanese win | A fun, quick to play scenario as your smaller Japanese force tries to delay / hold off the more numerous British. Used as much of the board as possible for the VC
2024-09-30 | (A) Andy Bagley | vs | Simon Staniforth | Japanese win | 2.3 hrs | No Japanese HIP but it’s still not easy for the British to advance here, as the rice paddies provide limited cover and the road through the bamboo can be interdicted by a Japanese unit on H16. My opponent pointed out though that units could enter on I20 then move to J20 and bypass K20 and L20 for a flanking move. And this could have been a better plan, as my attempts to creep through the rice paddies and run past the resid in J17 fell short. I reached the road but couldn’t clear it of Japanese. Scenario seems pro-Japanese at the moment. I reckon one more game-turn might even things up. |
