Overview:
To Czech leadership in Prague in early May 1945, the city seemed to be the next immediate objective for Allied forces. With the Americans approaching rapidly from the west and the Soviets from the ease, the Czech resistance-military commanders from General Frantisek Slunecko and Karel Kultvasr, in association with the civilian leadership of the Czechoslovak National Council (CNC)-decided the time for the uprising in Prague against the occupying had finally come. The Radio Building was seized, and the Radio Prague broadcast "Calling all Czechs! Calling all Czechs! Come quickly to our aid...Prague must remain free!" Unbeknownst to the Czechs, however, the Americans had stopped in accordance with the agreement that Czechoslovakia was to be occupied by the Soviets. The Red Army also stopped. most likely to give the Germans time to deal in their own way with the anti-Soviet insurgents, repeating the Soviet inaction is August and September 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising. Ultimately, Czech pleas for help would be answered by the strangest of allies, if only for the briefest of moments.Attacker: German (SS) (SS-Verstärkt-Grenadier-Regiment 1, Kampfgruppe Jörchel, SS-Kampfverband Wallenstein)
