Overview:

The second day of the invasion found the 4th Marine Division in need of reorganization and resupply after having fought multiple counterattacks during the evening. The planned morning attack was delayed so that the 2nd Marine Division could enter the line and take over. Due to the length of the line and the difficulty in bringing the 2nd Marines ashore quickly enough, however, the assault had to be moved forward with the tired troops of the 25th Marine Regiment. Brushing off the initial opposition (remnants of the night's counterattack), the 25th Marines quickly bumped up against the sheer 390-foot cliff of Mount Maga,. One battalion was sent east and another west while the 2nd Battalion faced the cliff to draw attention away from their flanking compatriots.
