Overview:
1st Ukrainian Front commenced its attack toward Berlin on 16 April with 2nd Polish Army protecting the left flank of the advance toward Dresden and Bautzen. Bautzen was declared a fortress by German High Command, forbidding the defenders to retreat or surrender. Bautzen was encircled and occupied in part by Poles, and the Germans frantically waited for a counterattack which might save them from imminent defeat. Finally, on 21 April, the Germans launched their last large-scale counterattack consisting of three panzer and two infantry divisions. Among them was Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1 "Hermann Goring", not the crack unit it once was but still a formidable force. While Bautzen was cleared of enemy troops, "Hermann Goring" and Sturmgeschutz-Brigade 311 attacked the Polish units north of Bautzen.Attacker: German (Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1 "Herman Göring" and Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 311)

2023-09-28 | (D) Paolo Cariolato | vs | Federico Corso | Polish win | As German you have the choice to go for an instant win on turn 3, bagging 1 VC building and getting more CVP than your opponent. It's doable but you need to engage heavily on the eastern building and could be pulled off on the northen building as well if defended lightly. The tricky part is the CVP. Problem is that you'll be unbalanced on these 2 buildings and probably not in good position to get the third building by the end of the scenario. Beware that your Panthers are needed to steam the IS2 don't waste them in the initial assault you have PzIV for that and for your own good keep those halftrack in the back ready to zip in the rear of the polish forces, don't use them too early. They are key to win the scenario. On the other hand trying to get all 3 building by the end of the scenario is a more sure proposition if you plan accordingly from the beginning. As Defender has not the luxury to choose,, you need to prepare for both course of action. BUT if you put too many bodies in the east and north they will be probably cut off to pieces and you'll be short of the defender for the third building and the reinforcement are not enough. The key is to defend with enough forces to hold them for a while AND prepare reinforcement that can bolster the defences enough for the building to hold into the 4th turn (more easily said than done).
2023-03-09 | (D) Maurizio Mai | vs | Fabio Mazzucchelli | German win | As Defender I screw up the scenario set up, misunderstanding the reinforcement group entry side. The "sudden death" was certain. I gave up one building (few dummies) hoping not to lose any CVP (or at least not more than the German) before Turn 4. Together with my opponent we agree it is a difficult scenario for the Polish.

2023-02-20 | (D) O Ramaille | vs | Xavier Vitry | German win | The Polish divided their forces to defend the 3 separated key buildings. The German pushed hard and attacked the factory with the Panthers. The Russian infantry heroically destroyed them in CC. The German however quickly overwhelmed most of the defenders leaving only a surrounded berserk commissar defending the factory. To the North, the defenders performed better destroying all panzers. An ISU122 came to the rescue of the factory but was immobilized with the crew abandoning the AFV. The Russian infantry was too far to help. The Factory finally fell and the German won. A festival of 2's (8 for the Russian with two of them having no effect) and 12's (3 only for TKs). A very fun game. |
