Overview:
Throughout the grueling month of October, determined and costly German assaults had managed to steadily shrink the Soviet defensive perimeter. But no one man, soldier or commander, could grasp the scope of the confused battle raging in the ruins. One such was Sgt. Esser, now leading the remnants of the 64th Motorcycle Battalion in an assault on the southern corner of the Red Barricade ordnance factory. Across the street lay his company commander and platoon leader, both dead; at his side the last officer was dying. Only sixty men remained from his company. Suddenly Esser went berserk. Leaping to his feet, he screamed “Forward” and charged across the street.Attacker: German (Kradschützen-Bataillon 64 and Grenadier-Regiment 103)
Defender: Russian (768th Rifle Regiment)

2020-05-24 | (A) Scott Sherer | vs | John Ferrell | Russian win | Not a fan of the deluxe format, but that said this was a reasonably enjoyable game that came down to the bottom half of the last turn. Couldn't get any results on an 8(+2) first fire, 4(+2) SFF, 4(+2) FPF and a 2(-2) FPF on the final turn and the Germans couldn't hold the victory building. Was absolutely abused by the Russian sniper (SAN 6) and a late berserk roll (Turn 5 I believe). Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes. The Russian player made excellent use of WA and the upper levels of the buildings and made the Germans pay a high price for every hex gained. | ||
2020-03-07 | (A) Stephen dedier | vs | Shipley, Eric | Russian win | I was the attacking German and I kept up a good pressure with my MMG/HMG kill stacks pressing forward. I was unable to get any momentum from the area with the potentially Berserk leader (who died a noble death before he could go Berserk) It came down to the last turn and I had 7 squads pressing in on 2 full squads and 3 HS in the victory building (1 other broken squad upstairs trying to rally). Such are the fortunes of ASL. I had 2 24 up 2 shots that yielded absolutely nothing. He came back at one stack of a leader and 3 squads with an 8 up 2 and rolled a 3. Every unit in the stack failed MC. Freed up just as dismal a result on the other side as what should have been a weak attack by the Russians became a 20 24 up 2 in prep and again all 3 of my units broke. So, I managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory but it is always a good time when it comes to the last turn. |
