Overview:
When Barbarossa started, Mussolini, eager to please his German ally after its own setbacks in Greece and North Africa, pushed for a contingent of Italian forces for the East Front. The "Pasubio" Division was tasked to cross the Orel River, a tributary of the Dnieper, alongside the German 298.Infanterie-Division. Shortly before dawn on 23 September, two companies of I/79° Reggimento Roma crossed the river on rafts without attracting attention. German sappers immediately started assembling a pontoon bridge to allow the tankettes of 3a Div. Celere to cross. The Soviets discovered the situation with the breaking dawn, and opened fire on the pontoon bridge. . .Attacker: German / Italian (Elements of the 298.Infanterie-Division and the 79° Reggimento Fanteria "Roma" and of Gruppo Squadroni "San Giorgio")
Defender: Russian (Elements of the 255th Rifle Division)

2019-07-16 | (D) Gordon Jupp | vs | Neil Brunger | Russian win | Excellent scenario, unusual and very interesting. Neil positioned his bridge well and I couldn't stop its construction...but the Russian air support destroyed a tank on it and then damaged one section. This was repaired and eventually 5 Italian AFV's stormed across; unfortunately for Neil they are pretty weak and two more were taken out by stun and recall. Meanwhile the Italian infantry, well supported by the German guns, tried to move into the village but the Russian OBA played a blinder and stopped them cold....well worth a play. | ||
