Overview:
The 2nd Ukrainian Front, augmented by the allied 7th Romanian Corps, had reached the Danube. Hitler ordered that beautiful Budapest be made a “fortress city” even as the 3rd Ukrainian Front encircled it. The Romanians, ill equipped for city fighting, found themselves locked in close quarters fighting for the Eastern Railroad Station. Facing them were their old nemesis – the Hungarians – who intended to exact revenge for the pillaging of their capital in 1921. For years their feud had festered, and now no quarter was expected or granted.Attacker: Romanian (2nd Romanian Division)
Defender: Hungarian (10th Hungarian Division and Group Billnitzer)

2021-11-28 | (A) Dave Mareske | vs | Dan Best | Romanian win | A grueling advance on the train station saw plenty of CC action with dramatic results on both sides. Dan opted for a lightly defended upfront defense trusting concealment and firelanes to slow down the Romanian advance. In the end, it came down to the last CC in the victory building, which the Hungarians needed to win, they did not. Great game which we played in 7.5 hours.
2019-03-06 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Scott Sherer | Hungarian win | 16.5 hrs | I played a strong upfront defense, but that didn't stop the Romanians from making a good push in my more lightly-defended south. They would run into a stone wall here for the next three turns however due to a HMG and MMG FL covering the Y row. If it wasn't for a nice sneaky LOS shot and my HMG breaking they may still have been sitting on the wrong side of the street. As it was this delay proved way too costly in time, as by this time I moved up the AFVs to provide much-needed support in the south, and had moved a full stack of units back to populate the factory. As in many of these older big scenarios, his AT guns just couldn't keep up with the withdrawal of my troops to provide much benefit. Turns 8 and 9 were rough for me as I MALFd three of my four MAs. Two of these were recalled and another was blasted by a DC. The Romanians made a nice move mounting a leader and HS on a truck and pushing through to my rear, but with all the wire and Hungarian bodies surrounding the factory they would be lucky to even get inside on their last turn, let alone clear the Hungarians. It was certainly a deadly game, as there were only two half turns that no troops were lost, while many turns had multiple casualties. Fun game, but I think the rebalancing may have swung this from a pro-Romanian affair to a pro-Hungarian.
