Overview:

The 1st Cossack Cavalry Division fighting under German colors, had been in Yugoslavia for nearly a year doing “search and destroy” missions against Tito’s Partisans. One column of the division was returning to base when it received word that 500 Croatian troops in the town of Palesnik were cut off by Partisans and urgently needed help. The Cossacks made a detour to deal with the new problem. . .

2018-12-14(D) Jeff B vs Ryan Ellett Partisan win9.25 hrsPartisans played a tough upfront defense to try and stuff the Romanians while maintaining a sufficiently sized force to delay the Cossacks as long as possible. The Romanians had a particularly tough time making their way through the finger of woods on the Board 2 approach, while the Partisan commissar stationed there provided rally relief for any defenders that happened to break. With more than a third of their starting force conscripts already, and with an ELR of 2, the Romanians were especially brittle. The Cossacks on the other hand were tough customers, but they had to contend with hill terrain and the reverse slope HMG. The "delaying" force ended up holding out until the end, with only a couple of Cossacks making their way past to threaten the east flank. By this time the Partisans were just too well-positioned and they ended the game with 37 FP in sight of the road. The two less turns in the updated version makes a huge difference in the Partisans' ability to survive.
