Overview:
The British were in full retreat from northern Malaya. Two battered Indian brigades were arranged in depth back through Trolak to the Slim River bridge. In the early morning hours of 7 January, a Japanese tank company accompanied by truck-borne infantry charged down the road. The Japanese tanks quickly overran the bulk of the 12th Brigade, and next up for lighting-fast defeat was the 28th Brigade. Because of very poor British communications, the brigade were unaware of the impending threat, and the Japanese caught them on the move.Attacker: Japanese (No more details)

Question: Per SSR 5, British Guns and Infantry start the game pinned. May they still set up HIP/concealed? Answer: Yes. (A PTC causes concealment loss, but units pinned [for other reasons] may well be HIP/concealed.) | FrF website |

2025-06-21 | (A) Michael Rodgers | vs | Ed Beekman | Japanese win | As the British, I had trouble comprehending the VC properly and it hurt my play. I was expecting the Japanese infantry and tanks to move together, but the tanks raced ahead. | ||

2020-05-24 | (A) Stephen dedier | vs | Crawford, Brent | British win | Japanese got onto the board in reasonable order freezing the already Pinned British infantry in the buildings and pushing the trucks down the road. My strategy was to get as far as I could on one turn, unload the infantry and Banzai to the village. The Brits took out one truck and passengers but the other 5 trucks got unloaded to form a line. Meanwhile other infantry with the FT moved through to clear out the infantry now behind the main thrust. Banzai charge made it to the village but the Brits took out one unit with a gun KIA and striped/reduced others. I managed to get a tank to the bridge on turn 3 but now had limited resources (3 squads a crew and one leader) in the village with 4 tanks. Gurkhas came on quickly and were formed up to hit back by turn 3. I lost all my outlying infantry to good shooting and good tactics by Brent so was left with only my guys in the village. I managed to do a lot of damage on turn 4 blunting the attack but malfed my MMG and was down to 2 FS, crew and a HS by this point using my tanks as the main defence. Unfortunately for the Japanese, the British only have to have one squad equivalent in a building at the end and they get the last turn. My meager force had to try to defend all 4 buildings and Brent had one of his 88's positioned so it could throw smoke to cover the attack. I took out a number of attacking units but couldn't keep a FS from getting into building with my HS and crew. I couldn't win the CC so Brent took it in the end. We both made some bad play decisions and had really hot or really cold dice on turns but a fun scenario with conditions changing throughout. |
