Overview:
Poland’s 60th Infantry Division completed its mobilization on 19 September and was assigned to Group Polesie. The Soviet invasion was threatening the Romanian Bridgehead, where the Poles, determined to keep it open, still expected French support to arrive the Romanian ports and where Polish forces were trying to escape the Germans. The Soviet 12th Army pushed into Poland threatening the bridgehead. The 60th Infantry Division fought several successful delaying actions against the Soviets on 29 September, but came under heavy attack on the 30th. Milanow was defended by the 79th Battalion, reinforced with a company from the 83rd Infantry Regiment, and a heavy machine-gun company. Two battalions of the 99th Rifle Division attacked Milanow.Attacker: Russian (99th Rifle Division)
