Overview:
Between January and March, after repulsing the Japanese south of the Buthidaung-Maungdaw line, British forces tried to recapture Donbaik, a village on the extreme south of the narrow stretch of land between the Bay of Bengal and Mayu River. General Koga had already arrived at Akyab with the 55th Infantry Division and was systematically reinforcing Donbaik. Due to poor coordination and very difficult terrain, the British were not able to break the Japanese defenders. Among the units that General Koga ordered to move north was the ‘Uno Force’, consisting of the 143rd Infantry Regiment and II/214 Regiment.Attacker: Japanese (Elements of Uno Force)
