Overview:
By 9 February, Soviet forces had succeeded inc capturing their primary objective wets of Castle Hill, the Budapest Railway Terminal. The next day, the Soviets continued their march toward the case of Castle Hill by crossing over the marshalling grounds and pushing on toward the area around Krisztina ter. By this date, Axis defenses were centered around a number of ad hoc kampfgruppen supported by one primary German reserve unit. Located in the Nap-hegy area, the core of this group consisted of the remnants of one of the Wehrmacht’s better divisions, Panzer-Division “Feldherrnalle”. With the support of SS-Kavallerie Division 8 “Florian Geyer”, the German units were determined to hold out as long as possible.Attacker: Russian (297th Rifle Division, 3rd Tank Brigade, 23rd Tank Corps, 31st Autonomous Flamethrower Battalion, 503rd Artillery Regiment and Buda Volunteer Regiment)

2022-03-17 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Magnus Rimvall | German win | 4.75 hrs | Germans traded all their concealment counters for the 5/8 variety so the Russians wouldn't know where was safe to drive their tanks. It's an absolute priority to not let the Russians cross Meszaros utea on Turn 1. They also need to hold the hillside rowhouse for as long as possible. Between mines, a big AT gun, and an MMG squad, the Russians ran into some seriously stiff resistance in AAA7. The Russians really need to get some tanks in the German rear, otherwise it's just too easy for the Germans to fall back to the easternmost buildings and hole up. Which is exactly what happened here. Quite a boring defense. | |
