Overview:
Landing at 0330 a mile from the mouth of the Tusciano River, the 9th Royal Fusiliers were under fire from the moment they disembarked onto Roger Beach. Their objective was a small village at the base of a tall hill that was six miles distant. This village, Battipaglia, became known to the British as Batty-P. The late evening advance met scattered resistance, and the regiment soon found itself in and around Battipaglia. After a restless early morning, two companies of the Royal Fusiliers were assaulted from the north and east by a large force of panzergrenadiers and armor.Attacker: German (Kampfgruppe Stempel)
