Overview:
The Japanese 2nd Tank Division, nicknamed “Geki”, launched counterattacks against American forces on the beaches of Luzon. This turned out to be unsuccessful and costly. The American 35th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed “Cacti”, was in 1 Corps reserve but returned to the division in late January. The 35th Regiment began attacking Japanese positions on 1 February, initially overcoming weak resistance. As “Cacti” advanced towards Lupon, they met stronger resistance. The G.I.s hit a strongpoint that included a variety of defending vehicles, including tanks, trucks, and a captured M3 GMC, forcing the infantry to heroically attack the vehicles at close range.Attacker: American (Elements of 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division)

We both had a lot of fun in this scenario, though admittedly mine was some what dampened by the absurd number of boxcars I rolled and Pin results I sustained while withdrawing toward the VC area. On my last MPh I revelaed a 1/2 squad and moved into the VC, Tome was unable to blow me away and lost the CC. | ||

I defended with almost everything on the east side of the stream with clear LOS down the lengths of them. The pillbox, made into a bunker, defended the bridge. That set-up made crossing the stream very tough, and only two US squads made it across. A lucky roll from the 105 resulted in a 1KIA result and with it, the game as all the other US forces were struggling to even get into the stream. Pretty tough on the Americans, I think. In addition to trying to root out the Japanese forces they can see, they have to search hexes for sneaky HIP units as well. Nothing special about this scenario other than some unusual Japanese AFV's. Otherwise, a pretty static point defense scenario. | ||

| 2020-08-03 | (D) nathan wegener | vs | Scott Martin | Japanese win | Definitely a bug hunt scenario. There are interesting OoB for both sides but the big question is can the Japanese slow down the Americans enough to keep something in good order. This felt tough on the Americans. |
