The Hermann Göring Regiment played a part in the elimination of surrounded Russian Armies in the Uman Pocket. The village of Sverdlikovo was one piece in this containment ring, and the Russians targeted it in an effort to break out. After hours of vicious assaults, the Soviets had captured most of the town except for a handful of Germans trapped in it's center and who where now in dire straits, taking serious casualties. The 16th Company of the Hermann Göring Regiment was ordered to smash into Sverdlikovo and rescue them.
