Overview:

After taking the Loushan Pass on the 26th, the Red Army came down from the mountains on the 27th. The Nationalists had gathered eight regiments of poor quality Guizhou Warlord troops and two divisions of KMT regulars. The Red Army would smash the Nationalists and chase them all the way back to the Wu River. At the Wu River, the Nationalist General Wu Qiwei withdrew across the river on a pontoon bridge. When the Red Army approached, he had the ropes anchoring the bridge cut. Stranded on the Communist side of the river were 1,800 Nationalist troops.
