Overview:
As part of Operation Epsom, the 9th Cameronians had the farthest first day objective, the village of le Haut du Bosq. For the attack they were supported by Churchill tanks of the 7th Royal Tank Regiment, and Crocodile flamethrowers from 141 Regiment RAC. The Cameronians initially had to fight through the lines of Battalion II, SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 26. The infantry and tanks were hit hard by artillery fire, but by 1100 they were at the outskirts of the village. Soon the Cameronians were under fire from machineguns, direct artillery, and antitank guns. The Churchills dueled with the guns, and the Crocodiles were called forward to flame infantry in a large orchard and buildings.Attacker: British (Reinforced elements of 9th Cameronians, 46th Highland Brigade, 15th Scottish Division)
Defender: German (SS) (Elements of HQ Company, SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 26, and Battalion I, SS Artillery Regiment 12, SS Panzer Division 12)

2023-02-20 | (D) Ian Morris | vs | Simon S | British win | Very enjoyable scenario
2023-02-20 | (A) Simon Staniforth | vs | Ian Morris | British win | I’m a big fan of these larger BFP scenarios and this one didn’t disappoint, partly chosen as very evenly balanced on ROAR after c40 playings. There is a fair amount of OG to cover for the Brits to get into the village but all those Churchills come equipped with multiple smoke and the 88 soon creates some more by burning them once it pops up. My opponent was unlucky malfing it on the second (IF) shot and immediately prior the single 20L had also malfunctioned. But ASL has a habit of balancing and a HEAT CH from a Wespe did for one of the Crocs pretty much the only DR that could harm it as it moved it to use the FT for a TK attempt (on an 11!). In the end the weight of British infantry told and as the German infantry slowly melted away they conceded T6 with the Brits holding 9 buildings and clearly able to get the remaining 2 in the final turn. Would happily play again as either side
2021-03-22 | (A) Rich Weiley | vs | Adam Lunney | British win | Had better luck this time, attacking on the German right flank. Overcame the guns on that flank and the Churchills were able to get the village outskirts much quicker and easier given the lesser amount of bocage on that flank
2021-02-13 | (A) Rich Weiley | vs | Dave Wallace | German (SS) win | I took what I thought was the safe option of entering on the west edge. This proved to the right move for my armour as the 88 was eventually revealed in BFPD FF1. What I completely failed to appreciate was the LOS opportunities offered by the combination of half level bocage and 3/4 level slopes. Consequently my infantry attack was soon bogged down and suffering constant casualties from a combination of long range MMG fire from BFPD S2 and, more demoralisingly, the quad flak that revealed itself in BFPD P3. My opponent had his own tribulations, having two SPGs recalled by an active Scottish sniper and malfíng both the aforementioned FlakVeirling and the 88, the latter however he did manage to repair. I conceded during my turn 5 movement phase when consecutive boxcars on morale checks had whittled down my Good order infantry to about a third of its original strength. It looked to be too tough an ask with most of my surviving infantry still a couple of movement phases from the VC buildings and the German infantry virtually intact. Really like the map layout in this one, gives a good feel for Normandy combat. Would like to give this on another go as the Scots if Monty doesn't sack me for my initial incompetence.
2019-08-19 | (D) Paolo Cariolato | vs | Rich Domovic | German (SS) win | Setting up for the German is not an easy task, as is attacking with a SMOKE curtain for the british. Rich attacked heavy on his right side but I was able to cut down his infantry. Pick a couple of Churchills and immobilize a Croc. The other Croc disabled its FT on its 3rd roll. I was in complete control of the village having lost just 1.5 squad and for the attack he had just 5 GO squad and 4 broken HS. So after 4 turnd he resigned. I think it was a correct assesment. Wish to play it again as British. My 88 was in a orchad on my far right the 20Ls in the village. The 105s and 150 ready to redeploy where needed. Nice and balanced scenario. |
