Overview:

Following the fall of Cane the race was on to capture the rest of Crete. Kampfgruppe Wittmann was assigned the task of advancing along the northern coast to relieve the beleaguered paratroopers at Retimo and Heraklion. In their path were troops of the 2/11th Battalion AIF, who were by this stage almost out of supplies. Their commander, Lt. Col. Ian Campbell, was determined to hold the approaches to Retimo airfield for one more hour to allow time for the rest of his forces to escape by whatever means possible. Following an intense and deliberate bombardment the German forces began to push their way through the Australian positions.

2012-03-18(D) Fred Ingram vs Jeff Coleman Australian winI am not sure what I would have done as the Germans. Mathematically, they have to get in some of the victory buildings by turn 3 to have a chance, turn 4 to just drag it out.

Sure was a lot of interesting things in this scenario. Lots of gun towing & pushing, kettenrads terrorizing broken Aussies on the airfeld, motorcycles, etc.

I got really lucky and killed 4 motorcycle units with 2's and 3's as they went by HS's concealed in olive groves adjacent to the middle road. Shocked the AFV's 3 times but could not get a kill. High point was a -5 shot (they don't come around that often) on a motorcycle going through a boresighted hex of the MMG with the 9-2 directing. Obviously the unit was KIA.

2012-03-18(A) Jeff Coleman vs Fred Ingram Australian win
