Overview:

Soviet forces had encircled Budapest in Late December, and Hitler ordered the city defended to the last man. The Germans and Hungarians did their best to fortify the city prior to the inevitable assault into the urban areas. Soviet forces launched hammering attacks for 10 straight days but achieved minimal gains. The defenders inflicted a heavy toll on the Russians. Elements of the 8th and 22nd SS Cavalry Divisions of the 9th SS Mountain Corps set up a perimeter defense around the ceramic and textile factories. Here they would fight to the end. The Russians were able to bypass the factory to the south and come up on the strong point’s west side. On 13 January they launched an attack on the west and east sides at the same time, trapping the defenders in a tight ring.
Attacker: Russian (Elements of 46th Army, 2nd Ukrainian Front)
Defender: German (SS) (Elements of the 8th and 22nd SS Cavalry Divisions, SS Mountain Corps 9)

2018-07-31(D) jon smith vs russian German (SS) winAn awful german deployment meant they had 3mmc and a leader shoot down from a HMG kill stack in Russian first turn, things looked bleak, especially when the germans broke an HMG and a jpzr IV ma in next 2 rolls...

but once the Russians met the mines and wire traps they were funnelled into fire lanes from various german interlocking lanes of fire, Russian casualties mounted and byt turn 5 it was clear no building would be changing ownership today. Even not using the HIP half squads and their schrecks, several fausts took out Russian tanks and only the larger factory was contested with half as many Russians as germans in it, with nothing but broken infantry around the other
factory the Russians surrended.

Looks like the Russians must attack hard and not rely on the big guns to take fortifications out.
2013-09-21(A) Jeff T vs Jerry DrawPlayed the beginning over a couple of session before discovering we missed an SSR so we ended it without a result. Great play through 3 turns, we'll revisit it at a later date.
