Overview:
The Italian offensive towards Nice kicked off with heavy preparatory artillery on the 20th of June in the midst of thick fog. Attacks by the Italians on June 21 and 22nd against the fortifications of the “Position de Resistance” resulted in heavy Italian losses. On the morning of the 23rd, operations were hampered by another violent storm, and later thick fog which made it difficult for the artillery to correct their fire. Towards midday, the sun came out briefly and the defenders of Cap-Martin discovered that long columns of infantry of the “Cosseria” Division were winding their way up the approaching roads, forming up for the upcoming assault.

The first couple of turns saw the Italians capturing four French squads, while rain made fire from the pillboxes inefficient. Even though, four Italians squads were broken with low morale levels and without leaders. Then I withdrew the French units to avoid the Italian PrepFire and during the third turn the French broke nearly all the Italian units that moved, and Ramón just conceded the game as he did not saw possible to get to the hills.

Italians just got too bogged down by French units sacrificed to get in the way. Some decent fire from the pillboxes on the hill helped a lot.
