Overview:
Elements of Luftwaffen Field Division 18 were ordered to attack the bridgehead the American 79th Division established after crossing the Seine River. At 0700, a jager company attacked south from Guitrancourt. The jagers were supported by a lone King Tiger from Kompanie 3, Schwere Panzer Abteilung 503. The kampfgruppe advanced south through the Vallee aux Caillouz to Highway N-90, then turned west toward Lemay. Outside of Lemay, a Sherman tank engaged the attackers but was dispatched by a round from the Tiger's gun. The attack continued into Lemay where the Americans damaged the Tiger's road wheels. The tank was not immobilized but . . .Will the Tiger stay or go?Attacker: German (Elements 18th Luftwaffen Jager Regiment 33, Luftwaffen Field Division 18 and Kompanie 3, Schweres Panzer Abteilung 503)
Defender: American (Elements Co. I, 314th Infantry Regt., 79th Infantry Division & 749th Tank Battalion)
