Overview:
The US Army 2671st Special Reconnaissance Battalion had been training for some time on Vis Island. On the night of March 17th, 1944 the boarded a Yugoslavian gunboat with their combat gear and were told that they would join the British #2 Commando to capture the town of Grohote, on the island of Šolta. Unit B under Captain Houlihan slowly edged its way towards the German garrison when the Spandau's opened fire and pinned the rookie Americans while the British Commandos were standing. Their commanding officer, Lt. Col. Churchill shouted, “Don’t worry Yanks, it’s a long way off!”Attacker: American/British (Unit B 2671st Special Reconnaissance Battalion and British OC 2 Commando with support of Vis Artillery Company heavy weapons)
