Overview:

After the initial defeats in the May skirmishes, the Kwantung Army wanted to take their revenge on the OKVDA (Far-East Russian Special Army). On 2nd of July, the Japanese launched two regiments on the west bank of the Halha river and pushed the Russians back from their positions on the highs of Baintsagan. The attackers were threatening the numerous Soviet artillery batteries that was bombarding the other bank of the river. Realizing the danger, Zhukov threw his mobile reserves into the battle.
