Overview:
Profiting from the collapse of Army Group Center, armored spearheads from the 3rd Guards Army penetrated deep into German lines and captured a town commanding two bridges which were the key to the German lines of communication. A kampfgruppe from the 3rd Panzer Division launched a counterattack to retake the village. The plan formulated by Zobel, the Kampfgruppe commander, involved one company of tanks making a feint to the west while the main attack, detailed to a second tank company and mounted infantry, was to come from the south.Attacker: German (2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment, 3rd Panzer Division)
Defender: Russian (3rd Guards Army)

2017-09-03 | (A) Andy Goldin | vs | Jack Dempsey | German win | Jack and I played "Panzers Marsch" and my Germans managed to eke out a win by driving off Jack's defending Russians -- at considerable cost to the 3rd Panzer Division, of course. My Panzer Leader managed to get a bounding first fire kill on his armor leader's tank, while a lucky hit by his ATG to the side turret caused one of my Panthers to brew up. I chose to dismount my infantry to cross through the wooded stream on the east side of the board. This was a very time consuming choice so that by the beginning of turn 3 my Germans hadn't yet gained any significant ground on board 1. This compelled dramatic action against his ATG and remaining tank. The loss of two half tracks to the ATG and two squads KIA'd while attempting to move into the city managed to get the Germans to some better firing positions. Thanks to some good dice rolls, I managed to destroy or break most every unit, leaving him with only an HMG out of position. Jack defended well but even with the balance of additional concealment markers, I very luckily pulled off a win. | ||
