Overview:

The biggest problem faced by Oberst Hans-Joachim Kahler’s Führer Grenadier Brigade, was that it was committed piecemeal and unable to launch a full-scale counter-attack against either of the American III Corps’ division it ran up against, the 26th in the west and the 80th in the east. Called out of OKW Reserve on 22 December the brigade was originally intended to cross the Sûre at Ettelbruck and then head directly to the support of Fallschirm Division 5 around Martelange but the threat posed to Ettelbruck by the arrival of the US 80th Infantry Division caused this to be amended. Kahler put one company of Füsiliers apiece into Eschdorf and Heiderscheid and sent two south with a platoon of Panthers to Grevils-Brésil hoping to establish contact with the leading Regiment of the Volksgrenadier Division 352. The American 80th Divisional Commander, Major-General Willard Paul, had decided earlier that the ground was unsuitable for tanks so for once it was the GI’s who had no armor support.

2017-06-14(D) Michael Rodgers vs Bruno L'Archeveque American winAn attraction of this scenario is some different AFV for both sides and multiple sources of VP. Bruno made a dummy tank which paid dividends later when he was able to move it and keep it concealed. This led me to bring my reinforcements on near it, which did not help the rest of my forces. Bruno used the TI M7 VP ploy for only one turn for two vehicles. They were in the centre adjacent to the hedges for cover. I managed to destroy one of them with a 251/9, but that HT died soon after from a 37L HT. A Pz4 would have taken out another M7, if the Pz4 MA hadn't broke. The snow became heavy in turn 3. The points were close going into the fourth turn, but the stuarts started to swing the game in the American favour, as well as a sniper putting stun on a StuG. When I conceded after five German turns, the VP were 28 for the Germans and 42 for the Americans.
2012-07-01(D) Fred Ingram vs Jeff Coleman American winSince the Germans had not yet recorded a win on ROAR (5-0 Americans), I had volunteered to play them to see how close to a win I could come. AS it turned out, very very close.

The pre-game bombardment was an exercise in futility (not a single thing happened after a ton of dice rolls)

Jeff turned in his three 60mm mortars to gain a 70mm OBA module (with a field phone for reliability). Unfortunately, the first turn defensive fire phase had me turning my 81mm MTR to randomly shoot at a woods full of units. It turned out to be where the HIP field phone was. I was kind of surprised when I rolled snakes for the hit. After random selection for the CH, I rolled another set of snakes for the effects roll. 2 leaders, 2 squads, and the field phone were obliterated.

The first 2 turns were optimistic, with the Germans holding their own. However, beginning turn 3, the meat choppers pretty well broke (or worse) anything in their line of sight. As usual, the game went back & forth till turn 6 when a reinforcing Panther made an appearance.

I felt pretty good at that point as there was a high chance of winning due to the CVP cap or building denial. THEN (cue a musical dum dum dum), Jeff returned the CH favor by hitting a panther on the front hull with a bazooka shot. After I lost the panther, it was a real struggle.

Turn 7 had a German 9-1 leader and a full 5-4-8 squad go Berzerk, leaving a victory building during its charge. It sucked up a tremendous amount of fire before finally dwindling to nothing.

As it turned out, Jeff had to gain 3 buildings on his last turn to win. He won all three, but I still had a chance to take one back in my side of the turn. It all came down to a CC between my 4-4-7 against his 5-4-6 squad. my CC failed - giving Jeff a well deserved win.

Not a single panzerfaust was fired during the game (no one wanted to open themselves up to retaliatory meat chopper fire)
