Overview:
"Return to the Start Line" -- After the incident of Chang Kufeng, Japanese considered that the Halha River defined the border between the Mandchuoko and Mongolia. In April 1939, the Kwantung Army was ordered to deal with border incidents and punish the “illegal violations” perpetrated by the Soviet-backed Mongol troops. On May 14, a recon detachment, composed of a squadron of cavalry and a company of light tanks under the command of Lt Col. Azuma Yaozo, arrived in the area of Nomonhan. On the 15th, Azuma, reinforced by a detachment of Manchurian cavalry, launched a pincer movement aiming to trap the Mongol troops outside Mongolia.Attacker: Japanese (64th Regiment, 23rd Infantry Division, Army of the Kwangtung and Manchurian auxiliaries)
Defender: Mongolian (Infiltrating Mongols and Mongol Obsevation Station)

2023-12-23 | (D) Jobbo Fett | vs | JobboFett | Mongolian win | The initial charges by the Manchurian troops into the small, mounted Mongolian force just could not get anything done, leaving numerous squads dead or broken. The race for the victory hexes was fun, and the Japanese did everything they could to make approaches within firing range as deadly as possible. The tankettes attempted to provide some hep, but other than a lucky CR result in close combat once, they failed to really achieve anything. In turn, none of the Mongolian LMGs seemed to have their sights attached properly, and 2 of the 3 not only malfunctioned, but proved irreparably damaged. A fun scenario, though missing a sort of je ne sais quoi to really elevate it. | ||
