Overview:
In November 1939, the Soviet Union attacked Finland. Sweden dared not engage in full scale war with its age-old enemy, but allowed volunteer bureaus to be set up. Among the first in the Swedish Voluntary Corps to see action was the 4. Jägarkompaniet. During a reconnaissance mission in the Märkäjärvi area the company was discovered, encircled and attacked by elements of the Russian 122nd Infantry Division. - - - - During 5.5 turns nine Swedish 5-4-8 jägare are being attacked by a large number of unfortunate Russian 4-4-7's. Some of the latter have skis, but most are just slowly trudging forward in the deep snow toward their goal: the Swedish base camp.Attacker: Russian (122nd Rifle Division)

2025-01-06 | (D) Jobbo Fett | vs | JobboFett | Swedish win | The Russian's led a large assault on the left flank with some units in the center and on the right to thin out the defensive line. Unfortunately, the Swedes had the Russians dead to rights with great IFT rolls that couldn't be matched by the Russian morale checks. Although the Swedish force did have to retreat and things were a little tense as a reversal of fortune took place, the Russians simply didn't have the ability to prevent the objective from being fulfilled.
2023-07-10 | (A) Mark Thompson | vs | Tim Osborne (Swedish) | Russian win | The Russian plan: (1) main body to enter along the middle/eastern edge hexes in unbroken line to tie-up/degrade the bulk of the Swedish forces; (2) conduct a HW in turn 3 to divert attention from the reinforcements; and (3) enter CX'ing/ski-mode (as HW if necessary) reinforcements along the extreme northwest edge to reach the northern entrance of the woods trail. It worked. The few Swedish units that were able to retreat back to the victory area were surrounded and broken/FTR'd or eliminated in CC. I think the Swedes need to avoid the temptation of a forward defense and place the bulk of their forces in the southern and western edge of the main forest complex and quickly hedgehog in the victory area, place a residual wall, and hope that their leadership superiority will be the edge in CC. I would also add a HS or two behind the victory area that are in position to advance in.

2021-03-31 | (A) Indy Lagu | vs | Rob Oler | Swedish win | I continued my losing streak against Rob. I think the Russians have to human wave to get up to the Swedes. The question is when. I did so on turn 2, and I think I was one turn early. I think my mistake was compounded by keeping my Russians together, instead of splitting them into two groups and human waving at the same general target The Russian reinforcements were a bit of a pain in Rob's side. At any rate, it came down to the last turn. The Swedes look like they have no chance as they are vastly outnumbered. But their skis and the deep snow certainly make the Russian's job harder. I'd play it again. Rob didn't think there was a lot to do as the Swedes...just skulk and take some potshots at Russians as they try to cross the frozen waste that is board 44.
