Overview:

The British, Australian, New Zealand, and Greek troops of “W Force” were retreating down the Balkans, slowing the Germans at every pass and strongpoint, heading toward a “mini-Dunkirk” evacuation on southern Greece. But an important bridge ahead was taken by German glidermen who wanted to keep the bridge intact for use by their armored forces. For some inexplicable reason, the glider troops stripped the explosives from underneath the bridge and piled them on the bridge itself. During a counterattack by W Force, the explosives went off and destroyed the bridge. In the smoke of the ruined bridge, JU-52s began dropping two battalions of fallschirmjagers into the fight.

2026-10-05(A) Todd G vs Brian German win

(VASL Log)
The Germans decided to take the shortest route to the guns using available wooded cover and grain fields. They also held back some troops in reserve to reinforce any faltering attack. On turn 1, a brave German leader threw himself against the crew of the southernmost Bofors locking the crew in CC and silencing the gun temporarily. Unfortunately he wouldn't survive, but it did allow other units to not have to undergo point-blank prep fire on the British turn.

On Turn 2, the Germans forgot to bring in reinforcements. But the northern attack was still working to clear the woods nearest the two other Bofors and doing a decent job of it. With a pincer move gaining a foothold, the Germans worked to envelope the defending ANZACs and Greeks cutting off their avenues to rout away.

Finally, on Turn 3, the Germans rushed towards the two remaining Bofors using the cover of the orchards and preserving their options to rout back if the attack failed. The Greeks were able to temporarily hold off the southern German forces from gaining ground. Ultimately with their forces surrounded, the Germans were able to capture/destroy all three guns

(VASL Log)
5 hrsThis scenario offers a unique situation for SK players up til now (SK1-SK2) with Germans being able to enter from any edge. The Brit/ANZAC/Greek player has to possibly defend from all sides. The Germans need to keep moving and engage in CC while the Allies need to avoid this as they are likely to be outnumbered. While locking in Melee might help the Allies, in preventing Germans from capturing the guns; it will limit the much needed fire opportunities for them to protect the guns.

In our game the dice were very swingy with turns 2 & 3 were good for Germans, not so for the British. But then turns 5 and 6 got pretty bad for the Germans and way better for the Brits.
