German (SS)American
Overview:
Major Arthur C. Parker, withdrawing with remnants of his 598th Artillery Battalion, including only three guns, realized the strategic value of the crossroads he was approaching. The center of the US XVIII Airborne Corps sector would be at risk. With the 2nd SS-Panzer Corps hot on his heels, the Major decided to dig in and make a stand. Bolstered with reinforcements, including A vehicles and several tanks, Parker withstood everything the Germans threw at him. On the afternoon of the 23rd, having held out for three days, Parker braced for yet another attack.Attacker: German (SS) (Bataillon II, SS-Panzergrenadier Regiment 4/Kompanie 7, SS-Panzer Regiment 2/SS-Panzer Division 2)

2018-07-08 | (D) Doug McMullen | vs | Steve Steinmetz | German (SS) win | Got the stuffing kicked out of me with the Americans, but it's a fun scenario. I tried a spread defense with the idea of keeping the fight out around the edge the victory perimeter. This would prevent the Germans from being able to consolidate their overwhelming force. But it didn't work. I don't think it was a good plan. My scattered forces were isolated and annihilated. Steve's patient attack and my scary-bad dice turned a poor plan that I was scrambling to revise into an outright catastrophe. I gave up quite early, something I don't normally do. But all the flavor had gone out of the game. It was a hard decision to surrender because the biggest asset the US has are victory conditions. They are quite demanding for the Germans to satisfy. All the US needs is ONE Good Order mmc or afv inside the perimeter to prevent German victory. This is a game the US can win while getting his butt handed to him and he should _expect_ to get his butt handed to him. But in my case the situation was extreme. And there was so much time left. Congrats to Steve on an effective no nonsense attack. *by the way, I've researched this fight historically (designing a scenario for a different game) and I'm impressed by the OOB. It's a pretty good reflection of the actual forces involved. The generic map, not so much. | ||
